Transmedia Storytelling
An Emerging Media Design and Development Master's Program team project
Restoring Rhythm (2026)
Restoring Rhythm is a transmedia storyworld dedicated to using movement to increase mental wellness and recovery. The story provides an overview of dance/movement therapy, educational resources, dancers’ perspectives, and encouragement for audience participation. This project was developed in a team of 3 dancers/EMDD students over the course of 16 weeks.
Research
The problem space was discovered through personal experiences and secondary research. Journal articles about mental health and alternative forms of therapy served as a launching-off point. More empathy research will be conducted as the story continues.
Problem
Even though mental health struggles (even as simple as college stress) are so prevalent, yet there is still a taboo surrounding them. It can be difficult to engage with traditional talk therapy, and pharmaceuticals can’t always be the answer.
